How I built the trees…

I had to use a strong base for the trees in the living room.. as they had to hold big marbles mirrors etc.. so I chose to use expanding wire.. ( as used in archways etc.. covered with a thick layer of papier machier.. mixed with the strongest wallpaper adhesive I initially mulched it.. but progressed to twisting strips of paper together after dipping them in the paste and winding them in layers onto the wire… This was a long process and not the nicest of jobs.. as my hands were permenantly covered in paste…

Once the papier machier was dry on the trunks I wired in the big marbles with galvanised wire.. distributing the weight of them to all the branches.. trunk and around the sides.. I also put screws into the ceiling through the top branches… I then put another layer of papier machier around the wires… This process was used for all three trees in the room… ( Papier machier was used during the wartime to make furniture.. as it was so strong once dry… )

Once the papier machier was dried through.. I began to put the first layer of plaster over the trees.. using a pointing trowel and doing small mixes in a bowl… Again another long process I also started putting a few mirrors and marbles in…

I also decorated around this time.. as I was sick of seeing it dull and dismal… I then put a temporary painting into the middle and then cracked on with the rest of the room.. the coving and third tree…

My skills in this area obviously would improve.. hence I left the second layer of pasterwork until I’d done the coving and the majority of the third tree etc… With the second layer I’m now doing I started to enhance what was there and incorporated many more mirrors and marbles.. also delicate leaves and flowers… ( not complete yet… )

When I was 3/4 around the front of the fireplace.. I added a new painting.. this time in oils…

As you’s are aware the fireplace isn’t finished yet.. but it’s getting there… πŸ˜€ From this:

I think it was worth all the time and effort and I know I’m not quite there yet.. but already buzz from the results so far…

The more you look.. the more you find… The myriad of mirrors give another dimesion again and refract lights around the room.. giving some great effects.. all adding to the magic of the place… πŸ˜€ Films will follow on completion of the plasterwork…

Wow, love the dedication to creating you have ! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you.. yes the creativity has predominated in my life and always will I suppose… πŸ™‚ I feel very blessed indeed… πŸ™‚

me too, I am very creative too, a natural artist, I do admire people who have the motivation to be prolific in making work…sometimes I am lazy day dreaming and dont actually make it, always inspiring to see others take inspiration and use it in action πŸ™‚

      • I have days like that.. it’s allowed eh… It’s great to hear you’re also an Artist… πŸ™‚ I’m self taught on most fronts of my creativity too…
Thank you for your lovely feedback it always serves to inspire me when I get any feedback for my work… πŸ™‚ xxx

  2. It is plan to see the love you have devoted to your art and work (if it can be called work). (Many posts got away from me when my computer was down) I am happy that I have finally seen this one and the amazing transition that your home underwent all in one post. You are a genuine artist Jennifer and your life’s work looks like a museum of dedication.
    with love, Eddie

    • Thank you Eddie.. such kind and lovely words from you.. you really touched me there… My apologies for the lack of posts lately I’ve just been so busy.. the full place needed painting and lots of other maintenance jobs needed doing and still do… πŸ™‚ I have a few images to show when I finally do another post though… πŸ™‚ Life’s challenges landed me here.. After every effort to do what others do and ” Belong ” I realised the universe had given me a space to be creatively free to some degree in the given circumstances and it began.. part two of my journey… πŸ™‚ Life presented opportunities to learn new things in all areas.. without worry of what others thought.. my world.. albeit tiny… πŸ™‚ I was also very limited on the ” financial front ” so ingenuity was called for on many occasions over the years… πŸ™‚ I look around now and feel truly blessed with the abundance of gifts bestowed on me and the beauty that now resides in here and surrounds me… πŸ™‚ No one appreciates it all more than myself Eddie… For instance.. I was in the garden earlier with the cats and had such a feeling of contentment as I watched them play and how happy were out there in their garden… ( Poor plants… ) πŸ™‚ Right best crack on.. I’m repainting the front bedroom at the moment.. I’m going to have it as a little studio.. wet oil paintings sitting around the place with Spudz and Beanz tearing around the place.. isn’t feasible… πŸ™‚ Have a magical day dear Eddie… πŸ™‚ Jen.xxx
